## What else this rule says

- Smaller than the passport’s and with its own figures: ⁦30 x 40⁩ mm, a head of 25 mm, give or take three, measured from the top of the hair to the chin, and 5 mm clear above it. No hat, no background and no shadow, taken within six months, your name on the back. Retouching is refused in every case, and so is a mirror-image photograph — which is what a phone’s front camera saves unless told not to.
- No eye line is published, so the band shown is where the eyes fall on a head sitting centred in the frame. It is guidance rather than a requirement, and is never painted red.

## What the tool does with them
